Today Ike, my photography teacher, told us a story about the IMPACT on photograph in his life. I realized how powerful photography can be and how it allows you to see the world in a different
Ike wanted to use his photography skills to tell stories of some old people living in a retirement home. For this he lived six months in the retirement home where he got to know different people with different stories. Little by little he became closer to two of the
elderly which seemed very peculiar and had captivating stories.
Before doing the pictures he observed the man and the women closely to understand them better. He played, talked and spend the day with them to get to know their stories closer. He always feared he would become too attached since any day could be the last of any of the elderly living there.
Once he begun taking the pictures he captured specific details about the characters. He wanted to build two stories through photos which belong to each character (the man and the women) without saying who it is. He did not want to give away the character immediately so he photographed objects that symbolized and personified each person.
He created a story of 4-5 pictures of each character. These "stories" clearly tell about the daily life of the characters in the retirement home. His pictures were very powerful and I could clearly tell that it meant a lot to him. His passion allowed him to experience something different and tell stories of amazing people.
